Mining Consultant - Johannesburg, South Africa

International South African based turnkey consultantcy has a vacancy for a Mining Consultant to drive Projects’ strategy in the coal/hard rock mining industry and provide mining engineering expertise on various projects.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - Johannesburg, South Africa/ Toronto, Canada

Our Client, an African-focused exploration and development company looking to identify unique resource opportunities with projects in Ethiopia, Burkina Fasa, Gabon, DRC and Tanzania.  Currently the focus is on gold, copper, iron-ore, and potash, although they are also pursuing interests in a range of other commodities, including manganese, in countries across the continent.  Their most advanced projects are in Ethiopia (gold). 

 

The company offers an attractive FIFO package.

 

The contract is permanent, and once on board the successful incumbents will be able to further develop skills in their selected area of experience or to broaden their experience and skills across the other facets of mine planning in the same or other mines of the group. They will be provided with on-the-job training and will continue to receive mentoring and will have access to external training to further develop their technical and leadership skills.

 

The position reports to the Chief Mining Engineer, and the duties are:

 

  1. Developing long term mining plans and schedules to achieve consistency with the life of mine objectives, and taking ownership of mining schedules plans for the annual financial budgets and 5-year plans.
  2. Mine optimisations involving liaison with geologists, mining engineers, metallurgists, financial people, geotechnical engineers, and so on, to compile optimisation parameters. Be able to oversee the optimisation processes and sensitivity studies.
  3. Input into mine costings and assist the financial department in the calculation and presentation of financial data. Be responsible for mine planning statistical data.
  4. Able to work alongside and assist the short-term planner.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  1. 10 to 15 years (hard rock mining, including minimum 5 years engineering)
  2. Bulk Mine Designs – Longhole Open Stoping
  3. Development Designs
  4. Block Reserve Evaluation
  5. Development and Bulk Stoping (Blast Ring) Design
  6. Management of Survey, Ventilation, Infrastructure and Projects
  7. Reserve Statements and Updates
  8. Projects and NPV Analysis
  9. Mine Design/Planning Software – Mine24D
  10. AutoCAD experience
  11. Previous expatriate experience is preferred

Mine Planning Specialist - Johannesburg, South Africa

International South African based turnkey consultantcy has a vacancy for a Mine Planning Specialist to support the mining engineering and discipline project design activities relating to concept, pre-feasibility, bankable feasibility, EPCM and Turnkey mining projects, and act as the contractual manager of all Mining contracts on site.

 

  1. Developing long term mining plans and schedules to achieve consistency with the life of mine objectives, and taking ownership of mining schedules for the annual financial budgets and 5-year plans.
  2. Compilation of annual reserves.
  3. Mine optimisations involving liaison with geologists, mining engineers, metallurgists, financial people, geotechnical engineers, and so on, to compile optimisation parameters. Be able to oversee the optimisation processes and sensitivity studies.
  4. Final and staged mine designs of a standard able to directly set out crests, toes and ramps in the pit; interrogation of block models and grade control models.
  5. Scheduling on various time and geographical scales, from life of mine to monthly plans, from whole pits to cutbacks and benches.
  6. Haul profiling and equipment studies; stockpile and waste dump designs.
  7. Input into mine costings and assist the financial department in the calculation and presentation of financial data. Be responsible for mine planning statistical data.
  8. Able to work alongside and assist the short-term planner with bench plans and Blastmasters.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  1. Tertiary qualification in Mining  or related field
